Artist Biography

Celia Palmer has created images for as long as she can recall. From a young age she knew she had an inclination towards image making and she began to experiment and develop her style. Her father was an oil painter and she's distantly related to Samuel Palmer, so perhaps it was always going to feel natural to continue the tradition.

Celia resides in Moseley, Birmingham. She feels blessed to be surrounded by a community that appreciates and accentuates creativity. Her greatest inspirations are some of the artists she knows personally, but she will forever be inspired by the dreamlike quality of the pre- raphaelites and the decorative lines and movement of art nouveau.

Being inspired by a wealth of resources her work can vary dramatically from dreamy acrylic paintings to very detailed pen drawings that take months to complete. Inspiration is everywhere, in the intricacies of a leaf pattern or the celebration of the changing seasons, and this translates to a variety of created work.

Since being introduced to highly pigmented watercolour inks in college she fell in love with the medium and still uses it in her work, but her practice has expanded into creating with a range of mediums- pens, graphite, gouache, even biodegradable glitter.

As well as creating visual art Celia has modelled for many years which has also been a source of inspiration at times. She has exhibited at Art Rooms, Ikon Gallery Open Call, and exhibited last year at Birmingham Open 25.
