Artist Biography

I am a Birmingham based artist who belongs to an experimental art group in Stirchley (EXP). Born in Birmingham and then travelled for many years, before returning home 10 years ago. I studied art for a number of years but fell out of love with it, moving into jewellery making. Only on returning to Birmingham I started painting again and have been inspired to explore my own practice, exhibiting a piece for the first time recently at a local gallery.

About the artwork

Clipped

It’s called ‘Clipped’. It started with an abstract painting of birds in flight. Then I started to think about birds having their wings clipped and how we use the phrase i.e taking away someone's power.

I clipped into the canvas, reinventing its form and then wove it back together as something new. I learned that the actual process is only temporary and loved the idea of how we can reinvent ourselves after pain and it resonated with me as a really positive thing.

The grate covering it is the final stage. The barrier created to keep ourselves safe whilst we heal.
